2017 Eclipse

The total solar eclipse of August 21st, 2017.

Wow, what a crazy week it’s been. People have lost their minds over this eclipse. From people traveling from all over the world to witness this eclipse, to the people making a profit from it, you would think this was the end of the world!

I live in Wyoming and locals, as well as businesses, have been raising their prices like crazy! Gas prices went up, hotel rooms prices soared, and people were even renting out their fields for campers. (I heard prices ranging from $50 a night, to over $400!) I can’t even imagine what bigger cities were charging for this event.

I hadn’t planned on doing anything special for the eclipse. My husband had to work leaving just me and my 3 year old. Who, let’s be honest, could have cared less about this. I had just planned on watching it from my porch, but I received a call from my husband asking if we wanted to go watch it. So we loaded up and went for a little drive to watch it in totality. (Which wasn’t too far, since we were only a few miles from being in the path of totality).

Honestly, it was a pretty cool experience and I’m glad that we took the drive to witness it. I’m especially grateful I was able to share this experience with my little family and we will always have these memories to look back on. It’s crazy how dark it can get during the middle of the day and even how much the temperature can drop in those few moments. However, I don’t think it was worth all the hype it received, and I definitely wouldn’t have traveled thousands of miles to witness it. (Especially, because there will be another one that will go through America in 2024- 7 years from now)!

All in all, I’m thankful that I lived in it’s path and was able to see this at least once in my life. But I definitely won’t be going out of my way to witness the next one!

Did you get to see the eclipse? What were your thoughts on it? I’d love to see your pictures in the comments!
